PRESS: Novatek mulls building wind power parks on Yamal, Gydan
MOSCOW, Oct 8 (PRIME) -- Russian gas producer Novatek is considering building wind power parks on the Yamal and Gydan peninsulas in order to use the power to produce hydrogen, business daily Kommersant reported on Thursday, citing unnamed sources.
Deputy CEO Mark Gyetvay said in July that the company is interested in hydrogen energy but did not elaborate. He said that Novatek was studying alternative fuels, in particular, hydrogen.
According to Kommersant, Novatek wants to produce both the hydrogen made of methane, and the green gas made from water via electrolysis with energy from renewable sources.
"In order to do this, the company plans to build many wind power parks in all regions of the company presence -- on Yamal, Gydan, maybe in the Murmansk Region and on Kamchatka," the sources said. Yamal LNG can host the pilot project.
The newspaper also reported that Novatek was in talks with Repsol to ship hydrogen.
